Woman Confounds The Internet By Allegedly Decorating Bathroom Like It’s In A Dive Bar

For those of us that drink, one of the most annoying parts in an average night of debauchery is the point at which you have to break the seal. Even those with a bladder of steel will find that there are only so many beers you can sink before nature calls.

If you happen to be drinking at a certain type of bar, a toilet trip can certainly be an experience. Dodging broken door locks, mysterious puddles and emotional/aggro patrons are all part of the ride when you visit the bathroom in a dive. Whether you find yourself there by accident or by choice, it is something which is especially unfun if you normally sit down to pee, or (God forbid) you have some other bodily function to attend to.

While they can be unpleasant in many ways, there’s no denying that many dive bar toilets have a certain charm to them. They are a cocoon of sorts, held together by the muffled sounds of the music and commotion outside and the sheer quantity of obscene graffiti (it’s still a mystery who goes out to get drunk while carrying a permanent marker around).

Its unique feeling usually caters to when we’re several shots deep on a Saturday night, not when we’re taking our morning shower to get ready for work midweek. However, this is something that @chelseycartercountry wants to live with every single day — and it’s only sort of because she got stuck with cleaning duty.

In a now-viral TikTok, she did a tour of a very authentic looking dive bathroom, overlaid with the text “Day 8 of turning my normal bathroom into a dive bar bathroom”. The radical redecoration immediately split the opinion of viewers, with many pondering why a person would make such a radical design choice.

Plenty of commenters didn't appreciate Chelsey's niche personal taste, thinking it was inappropriate to have in a home. “I feel like this would be really fun in the short term”, said @alexcalvoish.

At the same time, some were more receptive to the idea.

While not everybody could get on board with the inspiration, people were keen to advise on what she still needed to add to get the vibe just right. For @skinnysue22, the project could only be complete if it had “A girl in there who's crying”.

Meanwhile, @aubreyf182 advised that “The mirror needs to be busted or removed, and the drywall needs to be a tad more questionable”.

Despite appearances, all was not as it seemed.

Although viewers got worked up at this apparently faithful recreation of one of the grodiest places on earth, Chelsey confirmed that the video had been taken at Duke’s in East Nashville, the bar she mentioned in the caption. She was looking at their facilities for inspiration in her own renovation plans. While it remains to be seen whether she will go all out with her decoration idea, it remains a divisive topic. Even if it was in your own home, it’s hard to believe that you could wash yourself in a place that looks like that and come out feeling clean.
