Needless to say, redditors were envious of OP. When was the last time having an incompetent supervisor worked out in the employee's favor? OP really won the stupid boss lottery.

“They have to care more about their job than you do." Commented u/TalkingBackAgain. “They told you to mind your own business, and you did just that. Literally that. You did as you were told…In the mean time you raked in the big bucks for doing what you were told even though it was definitely not the smartest thing. At your hourly rate I’d have a new boat in no time so I’d be able to do more work. Or save it for a rainy day. $900/hour is a hell of a lot of loose change at the end of the month. And 15 years of that. Holy moly. Good job.”

“Oh yeah I forgot that part." Replied OP. “Those two boats made such an ungodly amount of money just sitting there that I was able to buy two more, hire four more people, and keep servicing all the other customers. My guys used to hate having to work at that yard though, just because it was so boring. They did all get a lot better at backgammon though, so it wasn't a total loss.”

“Sometimes you can’t care more than they do.” Said u/licensed2ill2. Wise words.
