Have you ever just been sitting through a job interview and they just keep saying all the things you just don't want to hear? No PTO, mandatory overtime, holiday work, low pay, etc.? Well, there is one phrase that basically encompasses all of that and that's when the potential employer says, “we're like a family here.”

Do they know how families work? Like… They've never started fist fighting with their sister because they borrowed your shirt without asking and then spilled wine on it and it shows. They never had manipulative parents who guilt tripped them into doing whatever they want and now you feel bad whenever you get to do something you actually enjoy and it shows. They never gotten into the pettiest fight of your life with your brother and didn't speak for weeks because of it and it shows…

POV: You're Getting Interviewed

Why do companies think that's a good saying? It's not like families have been a walk in the park like ever—family issues and struggles have always been around. Even animal families have their issues. Hell, a praying mantis will literally kill the father of her children just for existing after s*x… TikTokers are making it common knowledge that if you hear this phrase at a job interview or where you are currently working that you need to turn around and run for your life. The phrase is basically saying that your employer is going to treat you however the f they want and you're just going to have to accept it because “this is a family.” Maybe back in the day it meant that they'd forgive you easily if you missed up, or lend you money when you needed, or wanted the best for you, etc. etc., but companies now are money hungry and they've abused the word “family” long enough.

“This family makes me want to murder people”

"I don't even like my own family…"

TikTokers are commenting on these content creators talking about the cursed “we're like a family” phrase in the work place and sharing their experience and views with it. Even managers are posting saying that this is a huge red flag for any manager or boss to say. Work environments should be a well functioning team that has good communication, but they should most definitely not be like a family.
