Horror movies and crime movies tend to make all motels seem like seedy places where people go to get murdered or hide from the cops. It usually shows them as rundown place filled with vermin and bugs. And the only people who rent rooms at motels are the bad people of the community.
But in actuality, motels are not all that bad—in fact, motels help many different people in communities. TikToker “Brian The Motel Guy” aka @ltmotel runs a motel in New Jersey right by the Lincoln Tunnels called the Lincoln Tunnel Motel. He grew up there watching his father run the place and now it is his own duty. While growing up, he witnessed many times his father helping those in need and no charging certain customers when they can't afford it. Brian took this to heart and now runs his motel with a giving-hand mentality.
He's gone viral several times, mostly for sharing is day-to-day life working at a motel, but also just having fun on TikTok. He shows that just because it's a cheap motel, doesn't mean the people that are there are cheap. In fact, he takes in many donations at this motel to help his community and has started a “free room” program where he helps those in need of a place to sleep. He's become so popular that even the Governor of NJ called him up to say he was a big fan of Brian and all that he does and to keep up the good work.
Brian doesn't just show the happy moments from the hotel, though there are many of those. He also shows the low points and when it's a struggle to do what he does. There are people who take advantage of his kindness and try to get away with bad things at his motel. Though these moments are a struggle for Brian, and would be for anyone, Brian is able to look back at these moments as a whole and try his hardest not to see only the bad things.
Brian still runs the motel and still posts videos of his life there. He tries to keep most of his post optimistic and/or informative. His true work right now is helping those in need in his community.
