Step 1
Put your piece of plain printer paper (A4 or letter) on the table horizontally and fold it in half long ways.
-
Step 2
Open up the paper and twist it so that it's vertical.
-
Step 3
Take the top right corner and fold it in to it's top edge meets the center fold.
-
Step 4
Now do the same to the other side. Fold the left corner in to meet the center fold.
-
Step 5
Take the triangle that has formed at the top of the paper and fold it down. Don't fold it all the way to the bottom of the paper - leave about 2 inches before it reaches the bottom edge of the paper.
-
Step 6
Smooth out this fold well.
-
Step 7
Now take the top right corner and fold it in, like you did just before. The top corner should come to meet the center fold, and it will be about 1 cm away from the fold of the larger triangle underneath it. The two folded corners should not meet.
-
Step 8
Do the same to the other side. Now another triangle is made on the top of the paper. Smooth down the folds well.
-
Step 9
Open up the two folds you made. The paper will be marked by the corners you brought into the center. Take the corner of the paper again, but this time align the outside edge of the paper with the crease from the fold you just made. This will make a thinner triangle shape which points to the bottom.
-
Step 10
Do the same on the other side. Fold the left corner to make the outside edge of the paper meet the crease from the fold. Once you have done both sides, fold the edges over twice. Now you have the original triangle shape up the top but the sides are folded twice over themselves.
-
Step 11
Take the top of the triangle at the top of the paper and fold it down, folding about 2 cm of the triangle down. Smooth down this fold well.
-
Step 12
Open up the fold you just made, and fold the paper in half with the underside showing (not the double folds you did before, the side that has been on the table).
-
Step 13
Pointing the top triangle away from you, fold down a tiny part (1 cm or less) of it. Press down on it.
-
Step 14
Open the fold you just made and point the top of the airplane towards you. Then open up the top of the triangle, and fold it back on itself so it makes a small diamond shape on the top.
-
Step 15
Press down on this new fold well, and fold it inside the piece of paper.
-
Step 16
Open up the diamond and take the loose end. Fold it back on itself and press down on this fold.
-
Step 17
With the diamond folded back on itself, fold this part in half and back to the sides. Press these folds.
-
Step 18
Lay the paper flat on the table. Holding your thumbs underneath the wing, begin to fold the wing down about 1 cm above the center fold or the bottom side. Smooth down the fold of the wing.
-
Step 19
Flip the paper airplane over and make the same fold on the other side, aligning the two wings. They should match each other so the paper airplane flies straight.
-
Step 20
Your paper airplane is almost finished. Now, make a small fold on the outside edge of one wing, about 1 cm wide.
-
Step 21
Make the same fold on the other side.
-
Finished!
Aaaand... you're done! This is what your paper airplane should look like. Go outside and take it for a test run!
