In most places it's a crime to spit in someone's food; people who work in the food and restaurant industry will tell you that it's way rarer than people think. What's more common is employees doing exactly what the customer asked for even when it sounds ridiculous. The good people of r/AskReddit came together to discuss the wildest things they've seen done to customers orders, from hilariously ugly ice cream sundaes for rude customers to kitchen staff taking requests for extra-spicy food as a challenge. One McDonald's employee even employed a method known as "pickle surprise," which is, well, exactly what it sounds like — a surprising amount of pickles added to a random cheeseburger.
It shouldn't be a surprise that it's a pretty dumb idea to be a ding dong to the person cutting your slice of cake. You never know if the employee you're talking to is someone who just doesn't give a heck.
