It all started with this Reddit post:

Aww, what an adorable smol bean of a cat. He looks like a rescue, and he was likely a stray cat before. Hello there tiny little friend! This little lady is clearly very tiny for her age, but does she look unhealthy? Many Reddit users thought so and gave their two cents, keep reading to hear what they said.

Everyone found the smol cat very cute, but some urged the original poster to get his cat checked for illness.

Water - Chicken_beans Don't want to take away from the cuteness, but have you seen a vet about this? Could be that she is just a smol bean, but could also indicate some other medical issues

Such a good suggestion, cuteness and medical consultation can go hand in hand when it comes to the lives of our favorite pets. While it is true that every smol animal just automatically 100x cuter than a normal sized one, it is also true that sometimes an animal not growing fast enough can be a sign that the animal is ill or delayed in some way.

Font - Bd-cat Yeah - not to say it as if you've done anything intentionally bad though. Sometimes people don't know what the right foods are for certain cat ages, or she might have a parasite... so many things you might have genuinely not known about. But a cat that isn't putting on weight and size at that age is not a good sign. Sometimes it's not so harmful and she'll just stay small because of poor nutrition, but sometimes it can point to something more serious.

Font - casual_artist69 OP So uh, hello, first off I just wanna say thank you all for the concern and attention that the post got,it helped Maya a lot.So my parents took her to the vet and I stayed at home beacuse I needed to clear the living room for the bags that we were gonna get when they came back (they took her to the vet and then would meet up with a man who would give my mom bags that contained random stuff, she puts it on for bargaining and the money goes to thoose in need, charity, etc,a sm

Font - need, charity, etc, a small hobby of hers and mine),so the vet said that, she's normal, she's just smaller and grows slower then most cats, there's nothing wrong with that, when she grows older she will be smaller then most cats. Now,about the worry of my dad accidently stepping on her, there was no lung damadge fortunetly, unfortunetly though, the coughing was by a bacterial infection, thankfully it can be treated rest assured. She'll grow to be big, healthy, and happy,I promise you all, thank you once

Font - ellen9nyc Thank you so much for letting us know and for the good care you are giving her! Keeping up w the kitties' stories means a lot to many of us out here in subredditverse and I send you and Maya lots of good thoughts. My hubby and I have a small void, born 8/8/08, and he's never been more than 9lbs his whole life, but boy does he have powers, LOL, and the best of vet care. We bought him pet health insurance in fact, which is now pretty popular in the USA and it really helps defray t

Font - happinuknoit Lena Mae was born to the neighbors abandoned pet. She was the runt from the beginning and was rejected at 4 days old. I thought she was dead and went to bury her, (after all she spent 12 hours in the freezing pouring rain), she was not dead and my little bottle baby lived 10 years before Cancer took her. Her daughter (litter of 1) was bigger than she was by the time she was 2.

Font - KitchenSwillForPigs Same here! I have 2. One we adopted at about a year and she's tiny. She gave birth very young and it stunted her growth. She's my little teen mom and it's like she has bird bones. Meanwhile, my little boy, who we adopted as a kitten, is currently about her size (still growing) and is so heavy! He's very dense and it feels like lifting bricks.

Font - KitchenSwillForPigs My girl had kittens when she was basically still a kitten herself. When the babies were born, her former owners surrendered her and kept the kittens :( Having a litter so young stunted her growth so she's very small. The first few weeks I had her were so heartbreaking because she kept looking for her babies. I don't think they were old enough to be separated and it makes me wonder if they survived on their own. Sorry to be a downer but it makes me so sad when I think a

Font - TopaztheBigBoss I found a kitten abandoned in a box in a parking lot. Took him to the vet and they said he was a runt. He had long black fur and huge ears. After about a month he was still tiny and the vet said to just love him as he was. After a year he grew and grew and grew - then vet said he had some Maine Coon or Norwegian Forest Cat blood. He ended up over 20 pounds, and he was all muscle, no fat.
