The Takhini Hot Springs Hair Freezing Contest is an annual winter contest in Canada. Entries have now closed for the season and winners have been picked. The winning pictures are below. Takhini Hot Springs has a temperature of -20°C. Some of the awards include, best male, best female, and best group. This year they had 288 submissions. The winner of each category was awarded $2000, free soaks in the current hot springs facility, and a 12 punch pass for the new facility when it is completed. Some of these folks look like they could live in Whoville. Keep scrolling to see these wacky/frozen hairdo's.
The winner for best male could double as Johnny Bravo.
This contestant used a comb as a prop. It is sticking out from the top of her head.
The freezing process consists of:
Step 1: Dip your head in the hot springs and wet your hair completely. For best results, the outside temperature should be below -20°C. Don't worry- freezing your hair won't damage it!
Step 2: Allow the cold air to slowly freeze your hair. Keep your ears warm by periodically dipping them into the hot water. Be patient- all wet hair will eventually freeze, this includes eyebrows and even eyelashes.
Step 3: Once your hair has become pure white with lots of frost and ice buildup, ring the bell near the pool entrance and have our staff come out to take your photo!
