When we were kids, we had an entirely different idea of what being an adult was. We really believed that anyone could work in their dream jobs and make loads of money because the definition of being an adult is having unlimited funds. For example, we thought that if someone wanted to become a doctor, they could just stroll into the local hospital, put on some scrubs and a smile on their face, and voila - they were officially doctors! The reason why our views of adulthood were so innocent was that the adults in our lives sheltered us from the realities of growing up, and honestly, we get why they did it. We're just as protective over kids today. Childhood is meant to be the one time in your life where you're enveloped in innocence and fun, and no responsibility whatsoever. Who are we to ruin that for them? We had our time, and they should have their time too. It wouldn't only be depressing for them to find out that the rest of their lives run on bills, coffee, and little to no sleep, but it would also be super complicated to explain the concepts of adulting to little kids whose days run on homework, apple juice, and playdates. Twitter user @whysaloni asked the Twitter community to explain the concept of adulting to her as if she was a 5-year-old, and people came up with brilliant ways to introduce the concept as gently as possible to little kids.
Even if we're all grown up and have a way deeper understanding of adulting than we previously had as kids, we're still excited to see what people come up with on this thread. Plus, we're sure the parents out there will get a kick out of this and might even use it to teach their own kids a thing or two about adulting.
This dude takes the cake with a super simple explanation that is definitely kid-friendly. We like how he added the smiley face for the benefit of the children that are symbolically present in the conversation. We could use a lot more smiley faces in our daily interactions, and by that, we mean smiles on our actual faces on a daily basis. Interacting with other adults would be a lot more pleasant if we had genuine smiles on our faces instead of fake ones plastered on. We're all about spreading positivity in Cheezcake house. But we digress. The only thing that would make this explanation complicated is having to explain what bills are too.
