8 Girlboss Movies To Watch And End Women's History Month Strong

  • Legally Blonde

Bruiser's Bill isn't the only thing Elle Woods passed. How about all the knowledge this lady in pink passed onto us? Let's start with her authenticity. She stayed true to herself, her style, her everything during one of the most instrumental periods of her life. Oh, AND, she taught us the "Bend and Snap!", lest we forget that golden rule.

  • The Intern

So, it may not have done amazingly at the box office, but the odd pairing of Anne Hathaway and Robert de Niro made an excellent example of how dynamics shift in the workplace and will continue to. Jules' approach to all of her employees remained professional throughout the entire film. She never bitched at her workers or took on the role of "boss from hell", as we've witnessed in The Devil Wears Prada. Jules begins her company from the ground up in The Intern, and they show how women can't really have it all. That the struggles remain challenging because it's supposed to be sometimes. Regardless, she strove on.

  • Working Girl

Let's take it way back to the 80s, to the poofy hairstyles and nylon stockings. Working Girl is sadly about female competition in the workplace, and there may be a hella ton of sketchy male behavior that is certainly cancellable nowadays, but I do still see this movie as an honorable mention. For example, it explores how taking yourself out of crappy situations is likely the only way to get out of them. No one else will do it for you. That and making something of yourself with self-driven actions. Just maybe don't try replacing another powerful woman in the process, and you should be fine.

  • Ocean’s 8

So just for fun…what if you have a knack for stealing hard-to-steal jewels and the right band of gals that'll help in such an endeavor? Let's eightfold that to a really spiffy band of women that each provide their niche skills in the classiest heist since their predecessors (Oceans Franchise). It's just so much fun to watch them all act sassy and dress pretty all for the sake of some thrill.

  • Hidden Figures

It's about time I mentioned something nonfiction! Following the real story of three women who faced racism, adversity, and sexism during a crucial time in American history. These uncredited heroes, helped NASA correct mathematical errors, launch rockets, and tackle injustices on many fronts.

  • How To Be Single

One of my favorite movies of all time, for good reason. Dakota Johnson does such an awesome job of balancing awkward behavior, a multitude of relationships—including hilarious friendships—and forging her own path in a new setting.

  • Little Women (all adaptations)

Jo March steals the show in every version of this film. I've since watched 3 adaptations and am taken by the sisters' resilience time and time again. They hold one another very closely. They each carry vastly different goals in life, but the support shared and offered to each other is one of the best depictions of female comradery in film history.

  • Brave

I was going to say Frozen, but something about our Scottish darling, Merida, takes my breath away. A total girlboss that won't settle only for what the world (and her kingdom) expect of her. There's adventure to be had, and a bear to encounter (not quite like Leonardo DiCaprio, but it still counts).
