We stumbled on an old Reddit thread this week that left us doubled over laughing by the time we even got halfway through, so we knew we just had to share it with you. Apparently, this British woman got a chance to meet her sister's American boyfriend, and the meeting didn't exactly go well. And we know what you're thinking, but this wasn't one of those situations where she'd already slept with the boyfriend, this was a whole other issue entirely. This time, the boyfriend was offended, and couldn't believe that OP would do something so racist as naming her dog a racial slur. Here's the kicker though, the dog's name is "Yankee" which isn't actually a slur!
Every single person commenting either took a shot at the boyfriend's intelligence, or explained the backstory of the word and why it's not offensive in the slightest. Then, OP came firing right back to explain that her sister has awful taste in men anyway, and she's not surprised that this guy is such a dunce. What astounded us, and you'll see this in a moment, was the fact that this moron had the audacity to suggest this woman change her dog's name even though he is a personal protection service dog and that could severely hinder his training. Is the world just supposed to accommodate this guy's every wish? Anyway, by the end of the thread, OP had realized that she was clearly in the right, but she also issued a challenge, asking Reddit what else she could do to piss this guy off. The whole thing made our day, and we're pretty sure it'll make yours too.
So, the initial meeting between this woman, her sister, her sister's boyfriend, and of course Yankee the dog, went pretty well! It wasn't until later in the evening that OP received a call about how uncomfortable the boyfriend had been with the dog's name. At the time, it must've felt like a prank, right? Why would someone ever expect you to listen to them in this situation? But, apparently, the boyfriend was completely serious about wanting her to change the name.
Then, these lunatics had the audacity to return to OPs house again, and start arguing their point. We just can't understand what they're so upset about! If this guy is an American, then he should know, as OP points out, that we have companies, teams, and all kinds of things called Yankee in the United States. There is nothing offensive about the word in the slightest!
