"Extracted a kitten stuck under a truck. Meet Smudge Pot."
"Wife heard squeaking while on a walk Tuesday evening, thought it was a bird. I heard it Wednesday, finally figured out that it was coming from a junk truck across the street in the neighbor's yard. Little fella(?) was jammed between the underside of the bed and (I think) the cat converter. (Pun intended.) With the help of elder daughter and a can of food we finally were able to get him out. Probably helped that he hadn't had a drink or food for at least a full day. Maybe longer."

"Very scared at first; he's in the downstairs half-bath, it's small enough for him to become comfortable fairly quickly. And he did. Here he is screeching, about to leap fiercely on an attacking cloth ball."

'"Okay, I got it. Now what do I do with it?"'

'"Why isn't it moving around any more?"'

"He went to the vet yesterday morning. I'd guessed him as six weeks. The DVM said he looked a bit younger, though in the 4-6 weeks range. Vet thought 'male' but Smudge is so young it's still difficult to tell."

"That's not a blep or derp, it's an avulsion injury. Apparently part of the gum below the lower front teeth had peeled back, exposing underlying tissue. The vet said that sutures would be a problem for several reasons. However it seems to be healing okay on its own, though the gum is unlikely to re-attach. As long as it's not infected (antibiotic given) and he can eat (which he does very well) there should be no problem."

"We aren't going to be able to keep him---our three cats often don't play well with others-- but I don't want to hand him over to the animal shelter. With the number of kittens cropping up at this time of year, it'd be a virtual death sentence. He'd be in for a week or so, then euthanize. That's a NOPE. NOPE. NOPE."

"So if anyone in the west KY region would like a playful, energetic, healthy (apart from the mouth), friendly kitten that's a bit too young to be on his own...holler. He's already decided that it's okay to occasionally roll on his back for belly pets. I will pay for his first shots. And there may even be ($) assistance with neutering."
