Twitter is, has always been, and is likely to become increasingly: problematic. The platform is known for its hot takes, fandom drama (as well as real-world drama), and clout chasing. Plus, there's something inherent in the structure of users thrusting their thoughts out into the open void, hoping for accolades from others, that encourages the narcissistic behavior the platform cultivates.
Still, Twitter has always hit its stride and been at its best with threads like this. Threads that are fun, whimsical, and have a touch of a 'ye old Tumblr thread' vibe to them, combining existing ideas in fun, comedic new ways without the hidden agenda of promoting a new book or business project.
It feels like these threads are becoming increasingly rare, or maybe I'm just missing them, as I — admittedly — just don't feel the need to log in to the platform all that often anymore.
This Twitter user, who goes by the handle @PulpLibrarian, theorized the existence of a Muppet version of Apocalypse Now, which sparked a delightful thread — and now I need to see a portrayal of Kermit as Willard.
Keep scrolling for the original tweet and some of the responses below… I'll be watching Apocalypse Now and weathering this storm.
