We've all been the person who overshares and the person who someone overshares to...neither position is a great place to be. If you're like me, you probably fluctuate between both sides of this particular spectrum constantly. One day, you open up to a third-tier friend about something you shouldn't even really share with a first-tier friend. The next day, you ask your coworker how their weekend was and you end up on the receiving end of a long diatribe about their tumultuous relationship with their therapist.
The real question here is how did we end up in a culture of such oversharing and why does there seem to be no end in sight (looking at you, Prince Harry!)? Could it be the sheer number of doomsday scenarios we have encountered as a species over the last several years? Could it be social media? Could it be the subject matter depicted in the movies, TV shows, and music we consume? The answer is probably a mix of all of the above. Furthermore, there doesn't seem to be much we can do about it now except laugh at the whole darn thing.
