2 Posted by u/AEPNEUMA- My cowokers hours got cut because ge worked overtime after getting asked to come in for understaffing

So my co-worker got called in on Friday to come into work for third shift because 7 people called off. He was in the middle of sleeping. He already had to come in to work for his regular shift on Saturday at 2. He works from 10 to 6 and comes in the next day at 2. Turns out he was informed that his hours will be cut by 7 hours to make up for the overtime he received.

This is one of the most evil things I have ever heard about. You're begging for people to come in because you're understaffed and when someone does come in you cut their hours to save money. I, so you never actually needed him to come in??! If you actually needed him why cut his hours? How is this not illegal? Mine you his schedule was already released ahead of time. Makes no sense wtffff

bentnotbroken96 - 4 days ago Walmart did that to me when I worked for them... once. I told the manager to never call me in on my day off again, because the answer would be "no."
  • 06
He had the gall to say "that's not a very team attitude, is it?" I said "I didn't come in on my day off because I wanted to work, I came in because I wanted the extra income"

singswithmicoff. 4 days ago Never work hours your management team isn't willing to work. If they aren't coming in before you and leaving after you, they're a bad manager and can go eff themselves.
  • 09
singswithmicoff. 4 days ago That's 100% correct. It's poor leadership if you expect your people to work when you're not willing to. You get the big bucks, you put the time.

RealSundance. I was a working manager of a hospital radiology department who was responsible for finding people to fill shifts. I had someone call in once and I found someone to cover the shift but my director told me cut his hours at the end of the week to make sure we didn't give any overtime.
  • 11
I was like... "you realize if I cut that overtime, he will never volunteer again?" Director "I don't care. We can't have any overtime" So I did and the next time the situation arose.. I ended up having to cover the shift and there wasn't any way to cut my hours. So instead of paying overtime to someone who made 25 bucks an hour.. they paid overtime to someone making close to 40. They were so brilliant.

AEPNEUMA- OP Employer" you have to agree to the terms of this contract" Also employers "yeah sorry we know your schedule was already made ahead of time but we're gonna change it without notice"
  • 13
Employee " oh so if you can change my schedule last minute I can call off last minute no questions asked?" Employer "nah that's a violation and not being a team player" Capitalist logic ^

KidenStormsoarer 4 days ago My last boss tried that on me. "Thanks for coming in, we're cutting half your shift on Friday." I asked the gm of he was sure, because it was his one and only chance to do that. He said yes, I said ok, don't bother calling me on my day off ever again. Every single time he tried asking me to cover, my immediate response was "will I get overtime or are you going to cut my hours later?"

MySquid HasAFirst Name 4 days ago Wage theft (which I would consider this, but I'm a nobody) is the biggest crime in the country, and entirely unpunished. These kinda things make me unreasonably angry. "Weird your car caught on fire in the parking lot, boss, hope they catch that guy"
