Something that most moms and dads learn early on in their parenting journey is that there is no 'right' way to parent. Whatever method might work for you, there is likely to be somebody judgmental out there who is certain that you are ruining your kid's life. At the same time, there are some decisions that are likely to prove more unpopular than others—such as being needlessly mean to your child. While it's true that children need to understand boundaries and consequences, it's vital to choose the appropriate time and place for such things.
This is something that one dad didn't seem to do after he chose to publicly shame his son on Twitter. Claiming that the kid had saved up all week to buy an ice cream and then dropped it after just 5 licks, he boasted that he refused to buy him a new one. People were up in arms about his response, and it's not difficult to see why. This isn't the helpful life lesson he thought it was.
