Last weekend I got a call from my mom to inform me something that every adult dreads to hear – They are revamping my old bedroom and she needs me to come home and sort through all my childhood belongings.
There is absolutely no one who looks forward to the day that their parents decide they no longer need to keep their bedroom as a shrine for their childhood and declare it is time for a change. But many kids eventually have to deal with the fact that they are now adults who no longer live with their parents, which means changes need to be made.
So I spent last Saturday sorting through everything I owned and left behind when I moved out of my parent's house, and let me tell you, it was not an easy task. I wanted to keep every photo, every journal scrap, and every notebook that I had in my room, I just couldn't bring myself to get rid of a single thing. Eventually, with my mom's help, I managed to get everything I wanted to keep in a box that my parents ended up putting in the attic, so at least my childhood did not completely disappear along with my old bedroom.
