Welcome back millennials of the internet. It's a bit shocking, and actually scary to see how much culture has changed online. To see these pre-teens dancing with their butts shaking provocatively, that teenagers care more about their skin care than they do about having fun with friends, that everything online these days seems to lack a comedy and unity that we had the privilege to experience when we were growing up. Back in our day, the internet wasn't for being a hot girl and traveling the world taking selfies, it was about laughing under the same umbrella of existential misery and confusion about what it means to be a person. It's easy to miss those days.
With early YouTube videos like Charlie the Unicorn, Shoes, and Harry Potter Puppet Pals, we could laugh together, instead of comparing ourselves to each other. We bonded over 20 minute vine reels, video games, and taking the worst quality photos on our razor phones. Whatever the future looks like, we'll always have these nostalgic memories to make us laugh again.
