He's heartbroken about not walking her down the aisle? How about she's heartbroken that her father abandoned her in her life? She claims he left when she was 10-years-old and barely kept in touch after starting a new family. In my opinion, he has no right to demand anything from her. He hasn't been a father who's there for her, so why should she prioritize tradition over her own feelings?

Even if he was the best father in the world, it's still her wedding, and if she wants her mother to walk her down the aisle then she's entitled to that. Unfortunately, it's not his wedding and not his decision. She obviously really looks up to her mother, and that should be transmitted during her ceremony.

Woman refuses to let father walk her down the aisle, he accuses her of holding a grudge, but she stands her ground after years of his absent parenting: “He started a new family and barely stayed in touch”
A lot of women dream of their wedding day. Some more than others, but everyone has some idea in their minds of what their wedding day will look like. What kind of venue they want, the dress style, or the people who will be invited. Where weddings were once an acknowledgement of the merging of two souls in legal and logistic ways, weddings have been commodified and are now one of the most controversial topics for families and friends. Who's going to be maid of honor, who's going to be invited or uninvited, and who's going to walk the bride down the aisle are all popular topics that tear families and friends apart. Maybe the bride and groom don't want children attending, and cousin Carol brings her 5-year-old and is kicked out before the ceremony even starts.
In the story below, the protagonist is a woman getting married. Her father has never been a significant presence in her life, as he left her family when she was 10-years-old and started anew with another wife and kids. She has since decided to allot her mother to be the one walking her down the aisle on her wedding day, and giving her away to her future husband. This doesn't go well with her father, who accuses her of holding a grudge, and arguing the merits of tradition should be held higher in her wedding. She puts her foot down.
