And although we are avid supporters that cats are allowed to be chonky, at least to a certain degree, and that the more cat there is, the more cat there is to love, we also understand that some cats… are too chonky. And that means that it is time to face that dreadful thing known as a diet.

  One thing we can say for sure, though, is that it is not safe to leave your cats outside. There are many natural predators of cats that live out there, and you can't account for a human mistake hurting your purrecious feline. Even worse than that are intact cats living outside because they will overpopulate and create future generations of cats that need to be saved from the streets. After noticing their neighbor neglecting their outdoor cats (who now has kittens), one cat lover comes to a crossroads: do they steal the kitten and attempt to spay/neuter the other cats?   What makes surprise adoptions like this so heartwarming is that nobody plans for them. There's no shopping list, no expectations, no "perfect timing". It's just life unfolding in its messy, meowgical way - a little creature showing up where it shouldn't be, and a human stepping up to say, "Yes. You belong with me". Grim, the seafaring kitten, may have started his days skittish and hiding, but thanks to the kindness of strangers and the patience of his new family, he's already transformed into a beloved cat companion.

  Some big cats, unfortunately, don't have the best start in life. We want them all to be free, running around in the wild, meowgestic as they are, but that's not always possible. Some big cats cannot be released back into the wild for a bunch of reasons. There are so many cases like that, and all we can hope for is that in as many of these cases as possible, other solutions will be found - other ways for these big cats to be fulfilled and happy throughout their lives. And Petie… Petie is definitely a happy one. Sure, he couldn't be released back into the wild, but he has a family, cat friends, favorite toys.   Of course, we warn our friends that we do have a couple adorable cats in our house that they will have to deal with, and if our friends are bringing dogs, those dogs will have to deal with the cats too. Because as many accommodations that we are willing to make, our cats (also known as our family members) will always take first priority. We think that's fair. And so we respect what the friend in this story did. She invited a friend in need into her home, suffered the five dogs that she brought with her and all the other insufferable things that her houseguest did. And then, the guest crossed a line…

  Mistakes happen. We're human, after all. But part of our humanity should mean that if we see an injured cat - whether it's our doing or not, but especially if it's our doing, then we have to help it.   This cat was not simply lost. This cat was not being taken care of far before it as ever lost. Unneutered, unchipped, with tapeworms and a whole bunch of other things, when this person found this cat, there was no indication that it had ever been a housecat before. So, very kindly, they adopted it, and now, nine months later, when a 'lost cat' poster showed up on Facebook with this cat's picture on it, they don't want to give the cat back.
