TikToker Explains In New Viral Video How Rich Designer Brands Actually Target the Poor

Is it really that crazy that huge corporations are trying to exploit the poorer classes? It's been going on since the invention of capitalism.

TikToker Cassandra Bankson posts many videos about the dark side of designer brands. She has several videos exposing the dark “secrets” behind the extremely popular designer brand Chanel. And also goes into the suspicious world of the beauty industry.

Recently, however, it's her video pointing her finger at all luxury brands that is going viral on TikTok. The video points out that even though the rich are all about their designer brands and top of the line products, the companies providing these goods don't target them. The entire business model for these kinds of lines are based off of exclusivity of their products. So, they give their designer bags, or clothes, or beauty products to celebrities and other rich socialites to gain their status, but really they target the lower classes. The people who can actually afford these brands are getting them for free, while these companies are marketing and pricing their products to people who can't even purchase these items without putting it on a credit card.

Luxury Brands Are Not Made for the Rich:

The viral video has shocked her viewers on TikTok. In the video she mentions that these luxury designer companies actually burn their items to avoid putting them on sale. It's an extreme waste, blow to the environment, and just all around so scummy. Her viewers were so shocked by the fact that brands are burning their designer products that Bankson created a follow up video about that specific topic.

Burning Items to Avoid Markdown Sales:

It's not just the classic well-known designer brands like Chanel and Burberry lighting the fire, but also even smaller clothing companies like H&M and Urban Outfitters. Though you can find many sales happening at those shops, they still follow a similar business pattern where they try to get exclusivity for their brands. “Sales make things accessible,” the TikToker says, “the second that luxury goes on sale, it's no longer luxury.”

The fact that H&M is on this list, really got viewers heated up—commenting things like, “H&M need HUMBLING” and “they've got like $10 tops…” However, a former employee eventually comments on the video saying they do not burn their products anymore and that they've shifted to a donation program. The TikToker even quote Burberry saying they wrote that the “energy generated from burning their products was captured making it environmentally friendly"—which viewers point out is such BS because there is nothing environmentally friendly about exploiting workers and then burning their work to ensure their products stay overpriced.
