Teacher has to Hold it Together When Her Young Dog-Obsessed Student Tells Her His Dog is “at the Farm”

TikToker @justforlaughsgabs (Gabs) seems to be posting things different than her username leads on. She recently went viral for a post that will bring a tear to the eye of anyone who had a pet growing up. Children are told little white lies to keep them happy. Things like Santa will bring them presents for Christmas and the Tooth Fairy will reward them for being brave and losing a baby tooth. But as adults we know the harsh reality.

One lie that adults sometime tell children is when their beloved family pet crosses the rainbow bridge. When the family dog gets old and has to be put down, if the kid is too young, instead of having to have the death talk, parents will sometimes just say that their dog is at the farm. Their dog isn’t dead, they just went to go live on a beautiful farm with all the sticks they can fetch, all the bones they can chew, all the treats they want, and with lots of other friendly animals to play with.

Gabs is a teacher of young children and she recently caught a heartbreaking moment. She was chatting with one of the little boys who always raves about his dog. This little boy loved his dog so much and always talked her ear off about this pup. This time, however, he was telling her a story about how he couldn't find his dog this morning. “My dad said he was at the farm," he said. Gabs instantly knew the truth and tried hard to hide back her tears.

“I had to go to the bathroom to keep my composure," she said in the comments. "Little buddy always talks about Simba the dog and his new tricks to now never seeing him again.”

“Poor baby, we've all been there”

She can't help her face turn into concern and she asks him, “your dog is at the farm?!” She quickly realizes that she needs to hold it together and tells him, “yes, he's at the farm, your dog is at the farm, sweetie.” The next part of the video is Gabs at 3am wrapped in a blanket having a good cry knowing the truth about this poor little boy's dog. “Me at 3AM all broken hearted know where he's really at.”

A few viewers understood as well, and shared their stories of what their parents told them happened to their childhood pet:
