Blizzard reports that the highly-anticipated Diablo III, which finally arrived last week, set a new all-time record for fastest-selling PC game.
D3 moved 3.5 million copies in the first 24 hours of its release, and 1.2 million more players received the game as part of a World of Warcraft annual pass promotion, for a total of 4.7 million copies distributed on day 1.
The numbers have been backed up by Amazon.com, which reports D3 was the most-preordered PC game in Amazon history.
In a statement claiming the record, Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime also apologized for connectivity issues that kept a lot of players offline during the early days of the launch
"We also regret that our preparations were not enough to ensure everyone had a seamless experience when they did so. I want to reaffirm our commitment to make sure the millions of Diablo III players out there have a great experience with the game moving forward, and I also want to thank them for their ongoing support," Morhaime wrote.
