Dude Calls Out Anyone Who Claims to be Able to Speak Backwards, Proves Why They are Actually Full of It

You've seen those videos of people claiming to be able to speak backwards, right? They've literally been on the news and other outlets and get treated as if they have some kind of mystifying superpower.

This ability to be able to hear a word and automatically say it backwards sounds pretty cool, but because most of us don't really have any preconceived idea of what any word should sound like backwards, we tend to basically take anyone's word for it.

If you say you can say a word backwards, why would we try to challenge you on your ‘so-called’ ability if we don't have any better ideas?

Well, TikToker @squidslippers actually have the ability to speak backwards. How do we know? Well, he explains why in this very video.

Squidslippers' Lesson On Backward Speaking

In this stitch, Mr. Slippers basically explains that most people who have claimed to possess the ability to speak backwards have actually just been reversing the spelling of such words and then sounding out what that selection of letters would add up to. It's definitely an interesting skill on its own, but if any of these people didn't know how to spell one of the words they were prompted to reverse they may very well fail using their own methods.

Squidslippers' skill is pretty different. He focuses more on phonetics. The way he says words backwards are the same way you would hear those words if you were to literally take a recording of someone saying that word and then pressing reverse. He doesn't care about the g in words like night or alright because they are silent.

And in the example he focuses on, fireplace, he recognizes that although the letter ‘C’ has multiple ways it can be pronounced, it has more of an ‘S’ sound in the word, so it wouldn't magically sound different if someone was to reverse the word.

People were pretty taken aback in the comment section.

Here are some of the comments that stuck with us:

someone finally said it.
