Getting divorced when you have kids adds an extra layer of 'complicated' to an already difficult situation, and custody arrangements can get tricky. When you're not living with the person you're co-parenting with, figuring out your schedules in advance is crucial for ensuring adequate childcare backup if something comes up. If you have to rely last-minute on your ex-partner to look after your child on a day you were supposed to have them, it can cause stress and pressure, especially if they have to reschedule things. One dad experienced something similar to this and posted his predicament on Reddit's Am I The A—hole. He explained how his ex-wife had asked him last-minute to watch their child on her day after failing to sort out adequate backup childcare, which meant he had to miss work. He lost money as a result, and so he asked his wife for the money to cover his losses.
She claimed that this was ridiculous because it was his child too, and sometimes these things happen. He insisted that she needed to be a more responsible parent and ensure that she sets up sufficient contingency plans if she can't watch their child.
Who was right, mom or dad? The Internet seems to be mostly on the dad's side, but is he being too harsh?
