It never ceases to upset me how much the Harry Potter movies butchered the character of Ron. Not literally; he got out of the Battle of Hogwarts, and that chess match mostly unscathed. I'm talking about how the Harry Potter movies turned Ron from a well-rounded character with unique strengths and weaknesses into a goofy buffoon. Ron serves an essential function in the golden trio as the only member who was raised in a wizarding household. Therefore, he should be the one who helps Harry and Hermione understand wizard culture. Instead, the screenwriter makes it so Hermione explains the wizarding world to Harry because she's just so darn smart! After all, she probably read about the intricacies of wizarding slurs in a book. There's no reason Hermione should have recognized Harry Potter on the train when they first meet, but Ron doesn't. I wish that Ron got more moments to shine instead of all of the attention always being on Hermione's intellect, great though it may be.
