Vacationer grows tired of people at the resort ‘hogging’ sun chairs by leaving towels on them for hours, gets payback by throwing their towels into the pool: ‘Dibs doesn't work here’

  • "They didn't earn those spots in any way"
  • "Threw sun lounger hoggers towels in pond."

I'm currently on the tropical island resort of Hamilton Island in Australia. Yesterday I arrived at the pool at 7am when it opens, I noticed 7 sunloungers had towels laid over them already. They
  • were in the best spot, with large umbrellas shading them. The pool gets busy by 8am and all sunloungers become occupied.
  • The selfish people that 'reserved' their spot didn't arrive until 11:15, well over 4 hours later. They only stayed in the pool for 1 hour. This really ped me off.
  • The next morning I sat on my balcony watching over the pool. As soon as I saw entitled Mr sunloungerhogger heading out to claim his thrones, I
  • followed behind and collected all seven towels and threw them in the pond next to the pool. I picked a prime position so I could witness their reaction.
  • It was brilliant. They tried to accuse the new residents of the sun loungers but other people backed them up. They collected their wet dirty towels and after
  • realising there were no sun loungers, they left. Looking thoroughly annoyed. It was deliciously petty but worth it.
  • Frequent Raccoon_754 I'm going on a princess cruise in a few months and you have given me a great idea for an activity to do if bored in the AM. A nice stake out ②
  • simplesimonsaysno OP There'll be plenty of opportunities on a cruise.
  • baronessindecisive My friend called me one day when we were in college (I lived a block and a bit away from her) because she needed to shovel out a spot and move her car from a couple streets over
  • and she knew one of her neighbors was watching for her to leave so they could steal it. She bribed me with hot chocolate to sit in her spot while she ran to get her car (a total of about 10-15 minutes)
  • and, sure enough, as soon as she was around the corner they ran out and grabbed their car from the side street to try to steal the spot. I just sat there with my book and hot
  • chocolate and pretended to be deaf, acting completely oblivious to the car sitting there honking at me. It felt delightfully petty.
  • TheEmbiggenisor It would be unaustralian not to do that. Well done
  • simplesimonsaysno OP Thank you. Just doing my bit for the country.
  • CoderJoe1 It's not like shoveling out a snowed in parking spot and leaving a chair to reserve it. They didn't earn those spots in any way. Glad you threw in the towels for them.

  • Colink101 It's one thing if you're going to take a por get a drink and are saving it for five-ten minutes, but if you're gone for more than thirty minutes, it's free real estate.
  • Sweet-Consequence 773 This whole reservation of loungers shouldn't be allowed
  • GrynaiTaip It's a weird thing, some resorts have officially banned it, others support it. I've stayed in Egypt a couple years ago (Sharm al Sheikh), you can give some cash to any hotel employee and they'll put a towel on a lounger for you right after sunrise.
  • SlodenSaltPepper6 I've been to plenty of places that will let you set out towels, but you need to show up within an hour or by a certain time to keep the claim. Otherwise they collect the towels themselves.
  • Nunov_DAbov Well that really threw a wet blanket on their plans.
