I found my German Shepherd, Josie, a year ago-starved, abandoned on the side of the road, and fresh off having puppies.

Now she's happy, healthy, and easily the best (and dumbest) dog I've ever had.

She's all love and zero brain cells, but she looks intense- enough that creepy guys completely change how they act around me.

I'm a woman traveling cross country, and I've seen firsthand how quickly people back off when she's by my side.

I'm just so, so glad I ended up with a "scary" dog. She makes me feel safe in a way nothing else ever has.

Safe-Illustrator-526 • 9h ago I lost my Shepherd mix in March and he was the best running partner. My black Shepherd isn't as big a fan of running, but we just adopted another mix who is full of energy and loves running. I run early (usually in the dark) and find no one messes with me with 2 big dogs!

Anja91 4h ago Me too :) my girl is very friendly but looks like a wolf, so many people are just avoiding us. I like it cuz I am not very social and do not like to talk to strangers.

Doorbell416⚫ 14h ago Oh definitely. I move out of state for law school and took my GSD. I was all alone in a state where I didn't know anyone but I always felt safe with my dog around. She's the only reason my dad felt comfortable enough to let me do it too.

I can leave windows open in the summer and I barely think about it. I also sleep better at night, she WILL let me know if there's even a hint of an issue, and her bark alone drives people away who shouldn't be here. 352 ○ Reply

rhoswhen ⚫1d ago We have a GS mix. She sleeps in my daughter's room, on the first floor. Sometimes I wake up worrying I heard something, but then I can relax knowing Max barks at the rumble of a delivery truck, and if she's not barking, everything is groovy
