TikToker Sparks Debate on School Subjects and Their "Correctly Associated Colors"

For some reason, as a whole, large groups of people are able to agree on what color a class should be. Some say it's related to “synesthesia,” which is when you experience one of your sense through something else—for example, you associate a color with a word or personality. So that could be it, but then that would mean lots of people have synesthesia, which doesn't seem likely. More likely it is just an effect we all experience because of the colors that were represented often in the class.

TikToker Julia Leahy shared a presentation she made for a public speaking class of her's and it was all around the specific colors she associates with certain basic school subjects and why she was right. The way she explains it, makes total sense

For her, science is green because of many green substances associate with the subject like plants having chlorophyll, or the “green goo” you often see in beakers for experiments in chemistry. Math is blue, mostly due to the blue calculators you often have to use in that course. English was red for many reasons, one being when your teacher edits your english paper, she usually does it in red ink. And lastly, she argues history is yellow, predominantly due to the History Channel “H” being yellow.

Though her points are valid and many agree with her, she also is getting many comments that disagree. Many argue that math is definitely not blue, it's red. Perhaps because of the ultimate frustration math class tends to cause, people lean more towards the color red rather than the calming blue she says it is.

Lots of people in the comments add their thoughts on the subject, which makes it a rather compelling debate. It's also adds a lot of curiosity. Why do people feel so strongly about what color is associated with certain school subjects? The people in the comments who think math is red seem very passionate about it. However, there are a few in there who are saying english is blue and not red, but they seem a lot calmer discussing it.
Coincidence? Perhaps. Or perhaps NOT.

One commenter said, “math is red bcuz anger =red and math makes me mad. English is blue bcuz i cry over trying to write essays and having to read every night. History is purple bcuz purple is a nice color and I like history and my history teachers favorite color is purple.” And another added, “Math is red bc it’s angry and bc all my assignments were covered in red ink bc I didn’t know how to math.” So at least we all know one thing for sure: people are basing their school subject's color based on emotions and people are either angry with math or sad by it.
