If you live in Boston or have taken a stroll around the Boston University campus within the past few weeks you might have noticed some weird signs posted everywhere. They're all saying something different, but with the same goal: to get Stacey back. So, who is Stacey? Who is this person posting these weird signs? Nobody knows. But if you follow the signs, a dramatic story starts to unfold.
Reddit has been all over the situation since the signs first started to be spotted. In r/boston the heated discussion on whether this is all a joke or an art project rages on. People have provided photos of the signs they've found and it puts together that Stacey and this person posting these signs broke up because this mystery person cheated on her. Other than that, most of the signs are just huge red flags, showing signs of a completely toxic ex.
The Stacey situation has even made its way to TikTok where the confusion is still strong—especially, now that it's not in a Boston-centric community. Another strong theory from commenters is that maybe it's a marketing tactic, like gorilla marketing. On some of the signs there is a QR code that takes you to this website. The website is very ‘90s styled and seems comical. It has photos of the posters being created and a form where you can give advice on how they can get Stacey back. It also has a section where you can listen to voicemails people have left this person because they've put their number on the posters. Plus, it has a section where you can record a voicemail right then and there through the website.
“Does anyone know Stacey??”
However, if you do a little more digging on the website two things pop out: one is that if you scroll to the side, it takes you to a magazine called Control and to a company called Cargo that has a very similar style to the design of the signs. And secondly, it shows that the page was created on the BU campus. This makes the marketing and/or student project theory seem like the winner.
But, the googly eyes on the website and the sharing of the random people leaving silly voicemails also make this seem much more like one big joke. If the Internet is good at anything, it's good get bringing people together to solve a completely random mystery that probably doesn't really need to be solved in the first place, but everyone is just dying to know the truth.
If this is real, which all the clues so far point to it being fake, but IF it is, then we should be seriously concerned about Stacey. This tactic alone in getting someone back is a huge red flag, but combined with what they actually say, that is like dangerously toxic. Like, if this is real, then this person putting up these posters has some serious mental problems and I would be concerned for Stacey's safety… But again, all the signs about the signs are so far pointing to it being a fake situation.
So, Stacey or whoever's art project this is, please inform the world of the real situation. Thanks.<3
