IT Supervisor "Dave" demands all to-be-recycled computers pass across his desk, ends up with a giant mountain broken computers

Sometimes Dave will make an undeliverable request, and you'll have to respond with, “I'm sorry, Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that." Other times someone might be looking for Dave, but Dave's stress has finally done him in and put him on medical leave, so the only response you can give is, “Who? Dave? Dave's not here.”

Whoever your Dave is, it's safe to say that you probably hold an undeniable affection for them in spite of their sometimes intolerable behavior. 

That's why, when this Dave made an unreasonable demand, unlike HAL, his team was more than happy to oblige; he soon found himself off on medical leave, and they were only happy to continue to oblige him further. This soon resulted in a mountain of broken laptops behind Dave's desk that grew and grew until his eventual return.
