I don't know if the algorithm is trying to tell me something, but my social media feeds have been inundated recently with unbearable dating 'advice'. Scroll after scroll is interrupted by grand proclamations about what I should and shouldn't do in relationships, or a formula for getting some dislikeable rich man to pay for everything I do.
Like so many other parts of modern life, love has been totally pathologized by the internet. Opinions on dating now are all about complex politics and strategy, instead of just figuring it out as we go along.
This is yet another consequence of dating apps being popular, as they encourage us to treat romance as if it's all one big game. If that's the case, then why does it seem like it's no fun? Most people can't spend more than a day or two on Hinge without being confronted with some horrific profile, or cringey message exchange. At least no one is alone in this, as proved by the examples below. Damn, the dating pool is bleak.
