I hail from the megachurch capital of the world…the DFW metroplex. If you live in any of the quickly developing urban sprawl between Dallas and Fort Worth that has exploded in population over the past 20 years, you or someone you know has probably attended a religious institution that has more in common with a rock concert than a Catholic mass. Megachurches thrive in Dallas and Houston and are richer than God himself.
I have to hand it to the southern protestant community; they've really found a way to make going to church, a thing that's supposed to make you contemplative, repentant, and at times plaintive, into free theatre with Broadway-level tech and laser beams galore. No wonder they can fill four balconies worth of worshippers…it's far more fun than it ought to be! Twitter users were baffled by footage from Prestonwood Baptist Church's Christmas production, calling for rich churches like these to pay taxes.
