Back in the 1980s, nobody ever believed that a phone could fit in our pockets and the idea of carrying around a computer with you at all times was absurd. Gen X kids, remember when teachers used to motivate us to learn our multiplication tables because 'we'd never have a calculator in our pocket all the time'… Well, well, well, Ms. Thompson, it looks like science proved you wrong!
Lucky for most of us, we DO actually carry around a computer in our pockets every day. Growing up unplugged had its perks–like roaming the neighborhood streets until the streetlights shut off, building bike ramps in our backyards, and saving up quarters we found in Dad's pockets to go buy penny candy–but think of how different our lives have become, just because of that little, hole-less cassette tape that lives in our pocket 24/7.
So, although we love the convenience of the cell phone era, it's still nice to reminisce on the earlier, simpler times. Because even though we didn't know what 4x13 was, we could have a whole day playing outside and not once think about a missed call or a missed text.
