TikToker Claims She was Raised By the "Ultimate Karen," Goes Viral and Sparks Debate

A trend on TikTok has people posting throwback photos of their cool moms. They say, “Y'all were raised by Karen, I was raised by *insert cool mom name here*" and then it's followed by photos of a mom at a punk show or looking extra fashionable in the ‘80s, etc. It’s basically a trend for kids to show off their cool moms.

However, TikToker Jess, aka @.jessssssssssssssss, took the assignement differently and posted about her estranged mother, who she calls the “ultimate Karen.” The video shows pictures of her mom, who many point out has crazy eyes, or as Jess describes it, has “the devil in her eyes." She even provides menacing looking close ups of her Karen mom's “crazy eyes.” Within the comments she answers questions from her viewers, though many are requesting a follow up video with her clearly explaining what makes her mom the “ultimate Karen.”

Jess says in her responses to commenters, that she was able to move across the country from her hometown in Indiana before she even graduated high school and cut her mom off completely from her life. She also tells a commenter that her Karen mom has both Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) and Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).

Jess says in the comments, “For those asking if I’m good, I’m fine😂 I moved across the country to get away from her so it’s thrive city over here.”

Though many viewers believe Jess' mom to be the “ultimate Karen” through the menacing photos alone, others are skeptical. Jess hasn't responded to any commenter who has requested an example as to why her mom is a Karen. People are asking “what has she done?” One commenter even goes as far to say that Jess' claim could be a court cause of defamation, and to tread lightly. “Burden of proof is on the person who sues for defamation,” one commenter adds. “The Karen has to prove she’s NOT a Karen…”

However, many of the commenters are able to relate to Jess, contributing their own stories of being raised by a Karen mom. One commenter asked how the Karen-raised kids turned out, and someone responds, “traumatized but fortunately not the same as her. I actively try to be the exact opposite, especially when it comes to raising my son.” And Jess adds, “[I] always tell myself that I’m going to raise my future children in the exact opposite way she raised me."

Other commenters commend her for using this trend to be honest and shine light on the family trauma a “Karen” mother can cause. “You know what ,I love the honestly here. All the other spawns of Karen’s real afraid to do this trend," one commenter posted. "But not you baby you are a recovering Karen kid.” Which jess responds with, “24 & still recovering but we good over here😂🥰.”
