"And just like that, a simple errand turns into a rescue—he is safe and I'm still shaking."
As spring has sprung and summer slowly gets closer, kittens start to appear left and right. Now is the season for street cats and outdoor cats who have not been fixed yet to make smol babies. Adorable, but completely reckless. And to make things even harder, mama cats will leave their kittens in a cat's engine because it is warm. So it's important for everyone to give their engine a little *knock knock* before they start driving, to make sure there aren't any little critters hiding in there.
TikToker Maria Torres aka @lovenlight0013 recently posted a video that's gone viral showing her rescuing a kitten stuck in an engine. The video starts with her running frantically out into the middle of the street during rush hour traffic. The day started like any other and Torres was out with her family running a small errand, when her husband spotted a little furry thing slightly popping out of the car ahead of them.
As a cat lover, Torres adrenaline immediately started pumping when hearing that news. She spotted the little guy and immediately jumped out of the car, with semi trucks buzzing by and grumpy drivers, and flagged down the car. She told him to please pull over because he had a cat stuck in his engine. Luckily, the driver was very happy to oblige and even helped with the rescue. The kitten got rescued and Torres named him Desmond aka Desi. He is an itty bitty baby and she plans on quarantining him until he is able to get adopted and then finding him a very loving home.
When Torres got back in the car after rescuing the tiny kitten you can see she is shaking with adrenaline. She's holding the kitten close to her and inspecting every bit of him to make sure he wasn't injured. The little guy was shaking too, but seemed very happy to have been rescued.
Though most of the viewers are so happy the kitten got saved and praise Torres for jumping into action, there are some who think Torres was being reckless. One viewer comments on the guy filming the rescue saying he was in the way of traffic and needed to move. Another says that she should have just left the cat because she could've been killed running into traffic like that. But TikTok is a place more filled with animal lovers, and many viewers came to Torres side supporting her choice in stopping traffic to rescue an itty bitty kitten.
