He coldly said, "I run a business." Really, Sonic? Do better.

Imagine being a teenager and experience your worst nightmare. Then the next day you get fired. This is what happened to a 16-year-old girl in Colorado while she was working at a Sonic Drive-In restaurant. One night her carefree childhood was instantly ripped away from her when her friends got in an accident and four of them died and one was left in a coma. When the girl called out the next day because she obviously needed to grieve and process this horrible situation, the manager fired her. Over the phone.
TikToker @mrdullstar posted a video recording the horrific conversation he had with this 16-year-old's boss at Sonic. The video shows only the ground, since it's assumed he did not let the boss know he was recording, and revealed just how horrible this boss was. The TikToker called out this manager asking him how could he have done such a heartless thing? The manager responds by saying he “runs a business.”
The TikToker is standing up for this poor girl, because of the horrible situation she's being put through after already going through such a tragedy. He says to the boss, “If 4 of your friends died, would you come into work today??” To which the boss responds that he still has to run a business. The TikToker is just in disbelief by the pure cold blooded stance of this horrible boss. “She's a 16-year-old kid who 4 of her friends died, one's in a coma, she's never had to deal with any of this sh*t before, that seems a little f*cked up to me, does it not?” the TikToker says. The boss says he did have to come to work the next day after a friend of his died, and the TikToker is quick to point out that A) that's still messed up, and B) he is not a 16-year-old kid.
"Just give her the day off, be a decent human being for once in your life... I just can't understand your thinking right now of firing someone who all their main friends just died..."
The conversation ends with the manager saying, “if she wants, her mom can call me" and the TikToker has nothing else to say to this horrible boss, so simply says “alright” and walks away. The shocking cruelness of this boss is simply devastating. Can you believe there are people like this in our humanity? Many commenters said that she should sue because most businesses give the day off for bereavement, but viewers come in to comment that those laws usually only concern close family members and that it differs per state.
Other viewers are also quick to comment that they've also seen or personally experience this kind of treatment from Sonic managers before. Maybe not the exact experience, but that the Sonic managers are trained to handle every situation in a cutthroat heartless way, no matter the type of situation. It's heartbreaking to see capitalism taking out its darkest sides to a young grieving teenager.
